Duke was born on November 5th 2000

He obtained his CGC on August 6th 2006! I was so proud of him! I was able to have him take the test without attending any classes! He is on and off leash trained.

Duke's "story":

Since I started in this breed in 2000, I've been able to meet, rescue, befriend, and become attached to many Great Danes. Along the way I rescued a wonderful Dane named "Jerrico Blue Suits Me". At the time I met him, his name was Blue. (Probably because he has one Blue eye, and the other is 1/2 brown and 1/2 blue) At that time he was 1 1/2 years old... and sadly didn't know his name! I was out looking to buy another Fawn from a friend of mine, when I heard about a Brindlequin Dane. (Brindlequin is a color variation resulting from bad breeding, the Brindle mother had Harliquin in her pedigree) They explained to me that he was vicious. I stated I didn't want anything to do with a vicious Dane, but since I had never seen the color, I wanted to look at him. Sure enough when I got out there he was going after everyone in the family. They had him locked outside in a kennel. Danes are highly people oriented and you can do a lot of damage to a Dane's temperment without the proper socialization and human interaction they require. I walked up to this Dane, pulled on his ears, grabbed his tail, pulled on his lips and even pulled his tongue! He did nothing to me. (I do NOT suggest anyone ever doing such a test! Not really a bright idea! lol) Since he was obviously not vicious, I agreed to take him out of there. I placed him with a friend and explained that he was scared of Thunderstorms and not to lock him up during one. (He has to be with someone) Unfortunately my friend did not listen, and during a thunderstorm this Dane was locked in a back bedroom alone and proceeded to demolish the whole room... to the point he ate through the wall where you could touch the vinal siding, tore up the carpet and the wood underneath, ate the door knob, chewed the door posts and tore down most of the wall paper. My friend called me up, he was outraged... but didn't want to turn the dog back over to me, instead he was going to put him in an outside kennel. I told him under no circumstance would that be allowed and that I'd be down in 1 hour to pick him up. He's never left my side since! I changed his name to Duke (since he didn't know Blue anyway). He was trained by me, and was even able to earn his CGC! (Canine Good Citizen) I could never ask for a more loyal companion. He is my protector! Duke and Rebel were about the same age (Rebel was 4 weeks older) so those two became fast friends! Since Rebel's passing, Duke seemed to take it pretty rough. He lost a lot of his spirit.

Duke's coloring is known as Brindlequin. It comes from bad breeding though we don't tell him that! It happens when the colors of Harlequin lines and fawn/brindle lines are mixed somewhere along the way. He is a GORGEOUS boy. His bone structure is PERFECT. His coloring is striking and it does add to his intense look... I've seen this color "purposfully" bred without this impressive of a dog being achieved. He was an absolute "oops". But boy what a blessing. I was able to track down his original breeder and had the pleasure of seeing his actual mom and dad... surprisingly enough, a fawn and a brindle... way back in the lines was a harl... just goes to show you can never tell!
